This is a story about my struggles during my Erasmus exchange program in Lublin, Poland—a journey that led to the miracle of achieving a very good standing as an exchange student.
As you may remember, I was an Erasmus student. When I arrived, I quickly realized that the challenges ahead were far greater than I had ever imagined. I was a third-semester physiotherapy student, but to my shock, I found myself enrolled in courses across semesters 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and even 9!
Fear gripped me, and I cried my eyes out. The reality of the situation hit hard when I reviewed my course agreement. I immediately reached out to my home school coordinator and the relevant personnel for help. They acknowledged my concerns but said there was nothing they could do. How could this be?
Then came another email advising me to aim for the bare minimum—just pass the courses, ideally with at least a D. But how was I supposed to manage 15 courses, especially when they weren’t even organized by semester? I had to create my own timetable, juggling classes from five different semesters. All I needed was a pass, but I faced class clashes and subjects I knew nothing about.
One particular course was especially daunting; the lecturer even advised me to drop it, insisting I wouldn’t be able to pass. I ended up taking that exam three times! Each day was a struggle. I would wake up, cry, and remind myself that God brought me here for a reason and that He doesn’t fail.
My life revolved around studying. During the one-week Christmas break, all I did was read and sleep. I was exhausted and longed to return to Turkey, questioning, “Lord, what did You bring me here for?” After all the visa stress, I was overwhelmed.
Finally, after the exams, I returned home the very next day. When my transcripts arrived, I was in disbelief—my GPA was a remarkable 3.48! How did this happen?
Honestly, I can’t say I studied hard or was particularly diligent. It was truly God at work. He chose to use my story to reveal Himself. As my friend Tolu would say, “I’m graced.”
This experience taught me that sometimes, even in the face of overwhelming challenges, faith and perseverance can lead to unexpected miracles.
