How Did Your Holiday Go?
I honestly thought I would write and publish this at the end of 2024, but guess what? Life had other plans for me! A few weeks ago, I had a little mishap with my laptop—I accidentally spilled some liquid on it, and suddenly, it started acting all weird. I took it to someone who had helped me before when my laptop camera wasn’t working.
But here’s the catch: this guy kept asking for money for different repairs. Desperate to get my system working perfectly and quickly, I kept paying him. Weeks went by, and I still didn’t have my laptop back. Then, his phone line stopped working altogether!
Luckily, my wonderful brother sent me his laptop from Lagos since I live in Abuja. While I waited for my laptop to be fixed, I decided to watch a movie. And you won’t believe it—I watched Queen of the South! Yes, that cartel movie!
My Thoughts on Queen of the South
So, what do I think? The story of Teresa Mendoza, a woman who rises from a tough background to become a powerful figure in the drug trade, is not just about survival. It showcases the strength and determination we all have inside us.
While Queen of the South explores themes of power and survival, it also reminds us that pain can lead to wise choices or foolish ones. Honestly, I was completely engrossed in the risks Teresa took. If you’re not careful, you might end up scared of everyone and trusting no one after watching that movie! 😂
The characters I fell in love with, aside from Teresa, were Puto. My God! That guy is loyal to a fault—a true warrior. And then there’s Kelly Anne. Honestly, she shares some traits with me. She has this childlike spark, the way she talks, expresses her feelings, and navigates her emotions. I loved her character and her vibe!
Trust in a Complicated World
So, after watching that movie, do I trust people? Why not? I do! The film didn’t change my perspective on my loved ones because I don’t run a cartel, and I don’t plan on it!
Now, let’s talk about the characters I didn’t like. Boaz! That guy is just an animal. And then there’s the Colonel. Seriously, how cunning, manipulative, and deceitful can one man be? And he didn’t even die early in the story!
You know, we should really discuss how wicked people often seem to last longer than the kind ones. Notice I said “kind,” not “nice.” Recently, I’ve been reminding myself that niceness is not a fruit of the Spirit. There’s something about being wicked and ruthless—why do they last so long? This happens in real life, too.
In my understanding, being ruthless and cruel when dealing with people does have its advantages. The wicked often get everything they want!
Lessons Learned
Other characters I liked? Dumas! The trust he had in Teresa was off the charts. A Black American trusting a Mexican cartel jefa? My God! When Teresa sold him out to the cops because of what Boaz did, my heart broke. This guy would swear on his life that Teresa was different!
If I was blind to everything that happened in that movie, I’ve learned one important lesson: some people are just collateral damage in the evil events of others’ stories. This is a solid reason to always pray to be in the right place at the right time and with the right people. Make sure you’re not everywhere with anyone. As much as possible, remind yourself that you don’t want to be collateral damage.
What do I mean by collateral damage? Imagine you’re a pilot flying a plane, unknowingly smuggling a terrorist kingpin (God forbid!). The only way to take that person down is by crashing the plane. The pilot, who has nothing to do with that individual’s sins, ends up getting killed too. That’s just heartbreaking.
My Final Thoughts
I’m not saying you should watch this movie—especially if you prefer romantic films or comedies—but I’m just excited that I got to see it!
